We started in July 2018. The idea however emerged in May 2017 in the Bidibidi refugee camp in Uganda. This followed the significant cut in food ratio from 12kgs to 6kgs per person per month. The limited access to food in the refugee camp prompted us to start subsistence farming in a bid to complement the inadequate food received in the camp.
In December 2017, we received a voice through our CEO while in the church to feed the whole world. Inspired by the tremendous improvement and outcome of the small-scale production, in July 2018, we established DFI. The intention was to produce enough food that will not only feed the South Sudanese but also the entire world’s hungry people.
We then started production in Lazebu village in Arua District in Uganda with one acre. From only one acre, we grew to own over 14 acres of maize plantation. Our first product was the BEST 1 first-class maize flour we introduced to the market. It caught my attention and became one of the leading products in the market. As our story inspired many farmers around us, we instantly started the Agriwealth program. With this program, we turned the 14 acres into demonstration farms, mobilized over 120 farmers and form groups of 30 people each. We equipped them with relevant skills, finance and technology to engage in result-oriented production to boost their sources of livelihoods given the persistent poverty and hunger in the rural communities.
In July 2020, the South Sudan Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs licensed us as a national commercial agricultural institution with our head office based in Yei South Sudan. Today, our Footprints are in two countries, and rapidly growing as an international producer, value adder and distributor. We are trusted to deliver excellence. We instil the mindset in our farmers that farming is a business. We are therefore a business-oriented institution enhancing farmers’ capacities, providing credit facilities and availing modern technologies. We improve the livelihood of our farmers, feed the growing population and protect the environment to foster sustainability.
